Drug Store Foundation

Foundation is essential, would ya’ll agree with me? Of course, I love mascara, bronzer, and good lip color, but I don’t really look alive until I have foundation on.

With my skin changing often, especially in color, from winter to summer I can’t always afford to drop $50 on a good foundation at Ulta. Thankfully there is a such a wide variety of drug store foundations out there, I don’t have to worry.

Everyone should have a drug store foundation that they love, right? Well maybe that’s not a must for everyone, but it definitely is for me. Of course, I love all the name brand stuff like Too Faced, Tarte, and Urban Decay but I’m also a sucker for a cheaper foundation that I can wear on the day to day.

The downfall of drug store foundation is that you can’t try it on as you can will all the name brand stuff at Ulta or Sephora. When it comes to finding the right shade, I look for keywords like warm, neutral, pink, or yellow. This is a huge indicator of the way that the shade is going to turn out. Look at the shade of foundation that you have at home and see if you can find any keywords on the bottle, look for those same keywords in the new foundation that you are looking to purchase.

The drug store foundation that I fell in love with at first was Maybelline Fit Me - Dewy + Smooth. I found my perfect shade 125 and immediately fell in love with how smoothly it went on my face. I have very, very dry skin naturally so thankfully this foundation comes in two forms (Normal to dry - Dewy + Smooth) and (Normal to Oily - Matte + Poreless). If I’m honest, which I always want to be with you guys it’s that the foundation didn’t seem to stay on my face very well. I will say though that I don’t like to use a ton of setting powder because my skin is on the dry side and if I used more of it my results may have been different.  All around though this was a great foundation.

The second foundation I found that I absolutely love is also by Maybelline, Super Stay full coverage foundation. Don’t immediately turn yourself away if you are not a full coverage foundation type of girl because this is buildable. It doesn’t have to be full coverage if that isn’t what you are wanting. A friend of mine shared this foundation with me. Her face always looks amazing. The shade was spot on and there was not a blemish on her face, truly it looked flawless. I got this foundation in both a 120 & 220. I like to mix the two together and create shade for myself. In the summer, my face had a little more color than it does in the winter so having the two helps me to create a perfect shade no matter the time of year.

Y'all this foundation! I cannot get over how amazing it truly is. It’s liquid but dries like a matte. I was a little concerned at first with my skin being on the dry side, matte immediately makes me this drying, but that is not the case at all. I have gotten so many compliments on my skin since using this. People are constantly asking me what foundation I use and when I tell them, they can’t believe that I got it from the drug store.

Although you can apply this with a brush I like to use a damp beauty blender. I started out using a brush but found that it was laying a little streaky. With the foundation being Super Stay, the leftover foundation in the brush was drying up and unless I was washing my brush every few days it wasn’t working as well as I wanted it to. Ever since switching to the beauty blender, I have had no issues.

I hope that this review helps you choose your next drugstore foundation. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. I would also love to hear your review if you happen to try any of the products that I spoke on.
